Terms of Service
Last updated May 24, 2026
These terms govern your use of Vani, a personal text-to-speech reader operated by Charlie Agarwal (“the operator”). By creating an account or otherwise using Vani, you agree to these terms.
What Vani is
Vani lets you paste text or upload PDFs and listen to them via browser voices or, optionally, Google Cloud Text-to-Speech voices. Vani is a personal, non-commercial project provided free of charge. There is no paid tier and no payment processing.
Your account
- You must provide accurate sign-up information and keep your credentials confidential. You are responsible for activity on your account.
- You must be at least 13 years old (16 in the European Economic Area).
- You can delete your account at any time from Settings → Delete account.
What you can put into Vani
You agree not to upload, paste, or otherwise submit content that:
- You do not have the right to use (including copyrighted material you do not own or have a license to).
- Is unlawful, harassing, defamatory, sexually explicit involving minors, or designed to incite violence.
- Contains malware, attempts to exploit Vani’s infrastructure, or otherwise interferes with the service.
You retain ownership of the content you put into Vani. By submitting content, you grant the operator a narrow, internal license to store and process it solely to deliver the text-to-speech features to you. The operator does not use your content for any other purpose.
Acceptable use
Do not abuse the service. Specifically:
- Do not attempt to circumvent rate limits, the monthly free-tier quota for Google Cloud voices, or any other operational limits.
- Do not attempt to access other users’ data, or to probe, scan, or test the vulnerability of Vani’s systems without coordinating with the operator first.
- Do not use Vani in a way that, in the operator’s judgement, materially increases the operating costs of the service.
Third-party services
Vani uses Clerk for authentication and, optionally, Google Cloud Text-to-Speech and Google OAuth. By using those features you also agree to the terms of those providers:
- Clerk terms
- Google Cloud terms (only relevant if you select Google Cloud voices)
- Google account terms (only relevant if you sign in with Google)
Availability and changes
Vani is provided on a best-effort basis. The operator does not guarantee uptime, performance, voice quality, or that any particular feature will continue to exist. The operator may change, suspend, or discontinue any part of Vani at any time. If Vani is shut down, the operator will give reasonable advance notice on the sign-in page so you can export or delete your content.
Termination
You may stop using Vani and delete your account at any time. The operator may suspend or terminate your account if you breach these terms or use the service in a way that risks harming Vani or its other users. If the operator terminates your account for cause, your content may be deleted along with it.
No warranty
Vani is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including the implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, and that the service will be uninterrupted or error-free. You use Vani at your own risk.
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, the operator shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, revenue, data, or goodwill, arising out of or related to your use of Vani — even if the operator has been advised of the possibility of such damages. The operator’s total liability for any claim arising out of or related to these terms or Vani shall not exceed one hundred US dollars (US $100).
Changes to these terms
If these terms change materially, the “Last updated” date at the top will be revised, and a notice will be shown in the app on your next sign-in. Continued use of Vani after a change constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which the operator resides, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute arising out of these terms or your use of Vani shall be brought exclusively in the competent courts of that jurisdiction.
